The Shocking Truth about World No Tobacco Day

The WNTD countdown is on, you may have heard some chatter about World No Tobacco Day. Not surprising as today 31 May marks the global alert for public health. This day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe.

According to WHO the World Health Organization, with the objective to urge tobacco users worldwide to abstain from using tobacco products for 24 hours.

 
WHO are campaigning for plain packaging being introduced and for companies to get ready. You can read the full story here.

So what was the impact of plan packaging to the Australian community back in 2012?  WHO says there was a drop in the smoking rate by the end of that year. So wouldn’t it make sense to keep plain packaging?

Clearly the Government ordered drab ugly pictures posted on cigarette packets as a means to deter smokers from buying cigarettes however the evidence shows this did not  have the effect on smokers as the government thought.
 
Why join World No Tobacco Day?

WNTD day is intended to bring awareness to the widespread use of tobacco and to the negative effects on health (see below), leading to almost 6 million deaths each year worldwide. With a staggering number of 600,000 deaths due to being exposed to passive smoking.

 
Tobacco use is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally. As many as half of those who use tobacco die from the results of this use "Tobacco Fact sheet N°339" May 2014.

Mother Stops Smoking and Saves Daughter’s life

It was December 2014 when a young lady Noreen called to ask how my Quit Cigarettes in 60 Minutes program could help her mother succeed in quitting. Her mother, Noleen was a long term heavy smoker for over 50 years smoking between 40-60 cigarettes a day and had tried everything from gum, patches, tablets,  the lot.

Noreen travelled all the way from Ireland to quit smoking in Sydney NSW.

Even though Noreen was a smoker herself she was more concerned that her mother would quit given her age and concern for her health.

Noleen was travelling from Ireland to visit her daughter for a holiday and made the decision to book in her customised Quit Cigarettes in 60 Minutes program.

I was so thrilled and really touched that Noleen wanted to set an example to quit not only for herself but for her daughter Noreen. Showing her daughter that she was an amazing courageous woman ready to let go after 50 years of smoking!  So Incredible.

Noleen was determined to amaze her siblings back in Ireland who just never believed she would ever quit.  They were truly amazed by her success!

The 3 most important steps for Noleen to achieve her success were to:

1.  Identify the limiting beliefs and triggers which made Noleen feel compelled to smoke
2.  Release the mechanisms and associations connected to her smoking habit
3.  Establish new healthy behaviours and set an intention to achieve her goal to achieve health and vitality

Noleen set her heart on her goal to achieve success, she was strong and determined to stop smoking for good and she walked out feeling a happy and excited non-smoker; with the hope this would encourage her daughter Noreen to find the courage and motivation to quit smoking and live a long healthy happy life too.
 
Her daughter Noreen booked her Quit Cigarettes in 60 Minutes program and also achieved her goal to quit smoking.
