
The WNTD countdown is on, you may have heard some chatter about World No Tobacco Day. Not surprising as today 31 May marks the global alert for public health. This day has been met with both enthusiasm and resistance around the globe.
According to WHO the World Health Organization, with the objective to urge tobacco users worldwide to abstain from using tobacco products for 24 hours.

So what was the impact of plan packaging to the Australian community back in 2012? WHO says there was a drop in the smoking rate by the end of that year. So wouldn’t it make sense to keep plain packaging?
Clearly the Government ordered drab ugly pictures posted on cigarette packets as a means to deter smokers from buying cigarettes however the evidence shows this did not have the effect on smokers as the government thought.
Why join World No Tobacco Day?
WNTD day is intended to bring awareness to the widespread use of tobacco and to the negative effects on health (see below), leading to almost 6 million deaths each year worldwide. With a staggering number of 600,000 deaths due to being exposed to passive smoking.
Tobacco use is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally. As many as half of those who use tobacco die from the results of this use "Tobacco Fact sheet N°339" May 2014.
